For some years, this journal has regularly published a selection of articles from the biennial conferences of the Australasian Association for European History (AAEH) in special issues. The articles in this special issue are from the fourteenth conference of the AAEH, held at the University of Queensland, 7-11 July 2003, entitled Europe's Pasts and Present. The papers selected here give an indication of the quality and diversity of the conference proceedings.
