Dormant Marco Polo 2 DBS satellite sold to Norwegian PTT. (direct broadcast satellite, Norwegian Telecom)

The long-silent and seldom-used Marco Polo 2 direct broadcast satellite (DBS) has been sold by British Sky Broadcasting (B-Sky-B) to a subsidiary of the Norwegian Telecoms Administration to serve as a gap filler in the Scandinavian country's nascent direct-to-home Program' Sources familiar with the deal told SATELLITE NEWS Senior Editor David Bross that the satellite was sold for the fire sale price of approximately $42.5-51 million. The spacecraft will be moved to 1 (deg)W from its current orbit at 31 (deg)W during the next two to three months.
