The lines between fashion and function, seduction and promotion, fan and fly swatter are not all that thick. Fan and fly swatter? "Cool Breezes: Handheld Fans in Fashion, Art & Advertising" opens today at the Wisconsin Historical Museum, 30 N. Carroll St. The exhibit will be in place until Jan. 19.

There are two components. Forty of the museum's 300 fans are on display, and 80 others are on a nationwide tour that has been arranged by ExhibitsUSA, which is part of the Mid-America Arts Alliance.
