Since its independence from the British in 1948, Sri Lanka, then known as Ceylon (hence, "Ceylon" tea), has been a place of continual change. Specifically, Sri Lanka's tea industry has weathered not only the fluctuations of its country's industrial focus and international trade agreements but also the economic instability of ethno-centric unrest.
