One of Calgary's longest serving and best loved newspaper columnists discovered her talent for writing only through a lucky break. In the height of the Depression, Eva Reid could not find work as a stenographer so when a friend launching a small newspaper offered her a job, she jumped at the chance. She was hired as circulation manager but soon was pressed into service editing copy, conducting interviews, and writing articles.
