The state and the Mohawk Indians have reached a tentative agreement to settle a 22-year-old land claim.
The state would pay the Mohawks $100 million over 40 years and turn over 1,315 state-owned acres under the agreement. It would also recognize 13,463 now privately owned acres as Mohawk territory when Indians purchase the property from willing sellers.
The agreement is subject to a vote by about 20,000 Mohawk Indians next month.
