ABSTRACT: Cedar Bog Nature Preserve, located near Urbana, OH, encompasses several wetland types including an alkaline fen. In this fen, groundwater emerges in quicksand-like discharge zones consisting of porous Ca/Mg carbonates mixed with organic detritus.
