Twenty-five patients with panic disorder with or without agoraphobia were randomly assigned to receive, in double-blind fashion, 6 g of inositol twice a day or placebo (mannitol or glucose) for four weeks, and then the alternate treatment for an additional four weeks. Twenty-one patients (mean age, 35.8 years) completed the trial. The frequency and severity of panic attacks and the severity of agoraphobia declined significantly more with inositol than with placebo.
