The Port of Anchorage, which is located on the east side of Knik Arm in upper Cook Inlet, transported about 4.5 million tons of cargo over its five berths last year. So, what does that mean? That equates to nearly 7 tons of cargo for every man, woman and child in the state of Alaska.
For many people, who have worked at the port over the years, it also means the facility is stretched far beyond its intended capacity and needs an extreme makeover. According to port officials, the Port of Anchorage was not expected to reach the 4 million ton mark until 2010. According ...
