Jul. 31--DaimlerChrysler (Thailand) expects it will take at least five years before local sales of Mercedes-Benz cars double to 10,000 units, the record set before the 1997 economic crisis.

Karl Heckhausen, the company's president and chief executive, said the company had set a target to reach 10,000 units two years ago, but sales this year were projected at 5,085 vehicles, up 24 percent from 4,097 last year.
