Fresh Mangosteen Exports to Resume in Thailand.

Aug. 22--Thailand expects to export about 500 tonnes of mangosteens to Japan this year after Tokyo lifted its ban on fresh mangosteens in April.

Japan previously allowed only the import of frozen mangosteens and fresh fruit was banned in order to prevent the entry of harmful insects. Six other fresh fruits from Thailand were allowed: pineapples, mangoes, durians, grapes, raw bananas and young coconuts.

Tokyo would now permit fresh mangosteen imports on condition that the fruit be steamed for 58 minutes at 46 degrees Celsius ...
