Sanyo Electric Co. to Sell Disks Made from Corn.

Sep. 24--OSAKA, Japan--Sanyo Electric Co. said Wednesday it will release in December environment-friendly disks made from corn.

The new disks, called MildDisc, are made from polylactic acid taken from corn and when discarded can be dissolved by bacteria in two to eight months, Sanyo said. They produce no harmful substances when burned.

The MildDisc is applicable to music CDs and CD-ROMs, among others disks, and are identical to conventional CDs in quality. About 85 corn grains are needed to make each disk.
