Mediterranean LNG import capacity would triple from today's 42 billion cubic meters (30.7 million tons) per year to roughly 120 Bcm/yr (88 million tons/yr) by 2010 if all projects now on the table were built by then--but that seems unlikely. Instead, capacity looks set to rise by around 40% to some 60 Bcm/yr by late 2007, largely reflecting add-ons in Spain, where gas demand has increased sharply, and in southern France. Beyond that, it gets iffy.
