BellSouth, an Atlanta, US-based telecomms provider, has said that an estimated 3,000 customers are without telecomms services after tropical storm Gaston hit the Charleston area.

According to the company, most of the outages are in the James Island and Mt Pleasant areas, but there are also isloated outages throughout the region.
