It's a big corn crop. We know that. The obvious question that still must be answered is, "How big?"

* We're not convinced the national average corn yield can reach USDA's current projection of 145 bu. per acre. We'll find out more Aug. 12 when USDA releases the first survey-based yield estimates of the year for corn and soybeans. In its August corn crop estimate, the biggest "driver" is plant populations.
