Senior leaders of the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC), the Geospatial One-Stop (GOS) and The National Map came together at a summit in Charleston, S.C., to clarify program boundaries, realign activities to eliminate redundancies, and explore organizational strengths and weaknesses.

The organizations are principal creators of the U.S. National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI). During the meeting, FGDC's role was formalized as developer of spatial data standards and policies, clearinghouse technology, and education and outreach.
