When his bakery business was just getting started, Bill Snider was at the Greensboro Farmers' Curb Market every Saturday, serving samples of his bread, scones and other home-baked treats.

In those early days, before Simple Kneads had a downtown store or much of a customer base, free samples were Snider's best marketing tool, his best way to catch customers.

Many times, farmers' market shoppers would stop by his booth, snatch a nibble of bread and walk away.
