Jan. 19--Private businesses are defending the country's planned commodities futures market, saying it would benefit farmers, despite reservations expressed by Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

Members of the commission supervising the market also say measures had been taken to prevent speculation, a concern expressed by the premier.

Mr Thaksin suggested on Tuesday that the Commerce Ministry review its plans for the market, which is supposed to begin operating in September. Officials plan to discuss the issue on Monday at the Agriculture ...
