Feb. 24--MARYSVILLE, Pa.--A century ago, assembling a quilt took months of patient stitching to pull together the quilt top, inside batting and fabric back.

A few decades ago, the process was speeded up when some people began quilting on sewing machines.

Fast forward to 2002. Smile Spinners, a quilting and sewing shop near Marysville, recently started using a 14-foot-long quilting machine. A trained operator can assemble a quilt in a day or two with the machine.
