Mar. 20--During the tech boom when it seemed everyone had a portfolio and was making money in the stock market, Paul F. Rodgers struggled to attract clients to his Gold Leaf Capital Management, Inc.

The Willowick company, which he founded in 1998 after 10 years with National City Corp. in Cleveland, buys low-risk stocks that didn't pay all that well during the NASDAQ heyday.

While some day traders were making small fortunes seemingly overnight, Rodgers "couldn't get a cup of coffee" with many investors.
