Mar. 20--Dow AgroSciences, the agricultural arm of Dow Chemical Co., is closing its San Diego genetic research facility and offering to consolidate the 40 scientists there into its Indianapolis headquarters.

But supporters say the development, scheduled to be announced at a news conference today, is less significant for its head count than for its potential.
