Apr. 9--Venezuela's biggest labor and business federations will stage a 24-hour strike today, adding their voices to an escalating protest over politicking at the state-owned oil company Petroleos de Venezuela SA, known as PDVSA.

The strike is the most serious challenge yet to Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, the left-leaning populist who has dug in his heels against PDVSA managers, accusing them of "subversion bordering on terrorism."
