Environmental Groups Accuse Five Cruise-Ship Lines of Violating California Law.

Apr. 25--Four environmental groups Wednesday accused five cruise-ship lines of violating state law by routinely dumping untreated ballast water containing potentially destructive plants and animals into California ports and the Pacific Ocean.
In a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, the groups claim that luxury ocean liners sailing into state waters from Mexico, Canada and other countries are trying to save money by ignoring a 1999 law encouraging ballast water treatment.
