May 5--Teetering on bankruptcy, swamped by lawsuits and reeling from client abandonment, the Andersen accounting firm now faces the ultimate corporate indignity: criminal trial on a federal charge of obstruction of justice.

But barring a last-ditch settlement, it's the government that has more at risk in a Houston courtroom this week than Andersen, say legal experts. They predict that a failure by federal prosecutors to win the case will have repercussions on the government's ability to pursue charges involving Andersen mega-client and failed energy giant Enron Corp., as well ...
