May 31--HAMPTON, Va.--The Air Force touts its new supersonic fighter jet as the fastest and stealthiest in the U.S. military. The F-22 Raptor, the service says, will preserve the country's air superiority while sealing the future of Langley Air Force Base in Hampton.

On Thursday, the Air Force displayed a test F-22 at the Hampton base in hopes of winning support for its $69 billion Raptor development project.

There were plenty of admirers present. But there were also lots of questions about the need for the fighter -- and the future of the air ...
