A number of insurance companies are taking seriously dire warnings about the so-called "Michelangelo" computer virus and the threat it poses to their automation systems.

Two major carriers have already issued internal bulletins alerting users and data processing staffers to the virus, which experts say is scheduled to be activated in infected personal computers around the world on March 6, the birthday of the 16th century Italian painter/sculptor.

The virus, detected in Sweden and the Netherlands last April, is estimated to have infected about five million PCs worldwide. ...
