PHILADELPHIA _ Rollin Haffer was a Temple University varsity badminton player in 1980 _ a dubious distinction.

Often, there was no place to practice. The nets and shuttlecocks were tattered. Worse, Haffer had to share her uniform with a member of the tennis team.

Things were no better for other female athletes. Temple's swimmers didn't have enough sweatsuits. And the bowlers had no uniforms until they bought their own.
