The congregation of St. John's Episcopal Church in Hampton is the proud possessor of the three oldest pieces of ecclesiastical silver to survive from the founding days of the Virginia colony.
The chalice and two patens in question came into the church's possession shortly after the first Indian massacre of 1622 and have the longest history of use in America of any surviving English-crafted church silver.
