Oct. 16--The drive to eliminate the destructive cotton boll weevil in the Mesilla Valley has reduced the numbers from last season by 95 percent, program director Joe Friesen reported last week.

The latest field survey report totaled 91 weevils compared with 1,816 for the same time last year, Friesen said.

All the weevils, except one, in the new survey were found in the "core" area, about 300 acres immediately around Las Cruce...
