We read with interest Clive Barnes' "Attitudes" on the lack of good training for American ballet dancers in the May issue [DM, page 98]. With a total of sixty years of ballet dancing between us, we agree that ballet training in the U.S. is lacking. There are very few pedagogues remaining in this country, yet there are multitudes of self-appointed teachers who believe that, just because they were professional dancers, they will be good at giving instruction.
