Family of football player who collapsed during workout settles with Florida State University.(Sports; Devaughn Darling)(Brief Article)

The family of Devaughn Darling, a Florida State football player who died during an offseason workout in 2001 (JET, March 19, 2001), recently resolved a lawsuit with the university after a Tallahassee judge approved a $2 million settlement.

The state will pay the statutory limit of $200,000 to the Darling family, who must petition the Florida Legislature for the remaining $1.8 million. The family must file a claims bill by Aug. 1 to have it considered during the 2005 legislative session.
