Dec. 31--PIERSON, Fla.--The rural hinterlands of northwest Volusia, where leatherleaf fern is king, seems an unlikely home for one of the world's most expensive luxury foods, beluga caviar.

But this is a fish tale like no other.

This coveted "black gold" has been harvested from sturgeon of the Caspian Sea for centuries and was the favored delicacy of the Russian czars and the kings of ancient Persia.
