Red alert! Global warming warning as fish from the Canaries is found for first time in Scottish waters.

BRIGHTLY coloured and only a few inches long, it is hard to imagine a less sinister visitor to Scotland's coastal waters.

But experts last night warned that the red blenny may be only the vanguard of an 'exotic invasion' spurred by global warming.

Divers holidaying in the Outer Hebrides were stunned to discover the rare fish off the coast of Lewis.

The blenny, which never usually ventures further north than the Canary Islands, was spotted nestling on a rock at a depth of 100ft.
