I'm not old enough to remember the 1939 New York World's Fair, the one that featured the Trylon, the Perisphere and Billy Rose's Aquacade, but I do remember Salvador Dali, the irrepressible surrealist artist who died in 1989.

Dali played a significant role in the fair, as the creator of a pavilion called "Dream of Venus," described at the time as a "surrealist funhouse."

The pavilion is a landmark because it was an early example of installation and multimedia art, decades before those genres became popular with artists. ...
