Jul. 4--LAKELAND, Fla. -- Higher citrus prices combined with lower production costs, notably for labor, to push farm income in Polk County up 24 percent in 2002.

All local farmers and ranchers realized a combined income of $107.4 million for the year, according to the latest figures from the Bureau of Economic Analysis at the U.S. Department of Commerce. That compares to a revised income of $86.5 million in 2001.
