LONDON _ In the archbishop of Canterbury's own words, his 77 million-member Anglican Communion is in a mess.
Members of Christianity's third-largest denomination, which includes the American Episcopal Church, are deeply divided, particularly over the issues of same-sex unions and the ordination of gay and female priests. Concerns about the role of gays in the church, in particular, prompted an extraordinary meeting of nearly 2,700 conservative Episcopalians in Dallas last week.
