Most of use are familiar with such limericks but few of us have considered their place in the classroom. Limericks often are crude, usually funny, and sometimes profound. These same characteristics make them effective "ice-breakers" in the health education classroom.

As an "ice-breaker' and interest stimulator, this technique can be used early in the term to introduce a vast array of health education topics. Students create healthy limericks about topics of their choice and share them with the class. This ...
