"Significant Others," Bravo's new, semi-improvised comedy, is probably not, as has been suggested, the future of funny on TV.

A couple of times on network TV, Bonnie Hunt tried something similar, though not as tightly constructed or as calculated to win popular appeal, and was roundly rejected by viewers.

But as another of television's adventures in cable, one blessedly free of real people in compromising situations, this short-run series (9 p.m. EST Tuesdays, after "Queer Eye") has an undeniable freshness.
