Service Centers Spark Lively Debate In Oregon

PORTLAND, Ore.--While the jury is still out on the effectiveness of insurance company service centers, the concept appears to be winning more support from independent agents in the Pacific Northwest than in other parts of the country.

"Some agents have questions and want to be cautious, but there is little of the violent opposition we have heard about from agencies in some other states," said Kathryn Smith, executive vice president of the Portland-based Independent Insurance Agents of Oregon.
