Feb. 16--CLARKSBURG, Calif. -- It's the water.

Or more precisely, the numerous waterways that meander through the northeastern reaches of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, that give the Clarksburg area its uniqueness when it comes to growing high-quality winegrapes.

Recent articles in the national wine press have brought attention to the Clarksburg American Viticultural Area, the grape-growing appellation that lies directly northwest of the better-known Lodi district in north San Joaquin County.
