ATLANTA _ For many Americans, the civil rights movement is defined by images of students being sprayed with water hoses, protesters attacked by vicious police dogs and the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. leading arm-locked crowds through the streets of Birmingham singing "We Shall Overcome."
