Apr. 17--Record prices for platinum are giving some budget-conscious jewelry shoppers pause as they pick out wedding bands and engagement rings.

It was just a few years ago that platinum cost only a little more than gold. Now platinum has nearly tripled in price -- setting a record a few days ago at $939.50 per ounce.
