May 9--Bowling was something that Liz Golden's parents didn't want her to do when she was growing up in the 1950s.

The sport called up images of cigar-smoking, pot-bellied men knocking down beers and pins in back alleys.

But Golden, manager at Victory Lanes off Skidaway Drive, said her parents came out to watch her bowl one Saturday morning and saw it wasn't that way. "The house was full of kids." John Holland, manager at Savannah Lanes on Tibet Avenue, said that when he was growing up in Southern California, "it was unheard of to go bowling.
