"Plainsong" is an unintentional mystery. The audience will spend two frustrating hours trying to figure out where it is going. The answer won't be certain until the final curtain of the melancholy story: nowhere. However, it does take forever to get there.
Satisfying dramas are driven by conflict, jeopardy or romance. "Plainsong" falls short or doesn't deliver at all in each of these areas.
