Soldier faces court-martial in Iraqi prisoner-abuse case.

ST. LOUIS _ The soldier facing a court-martial next week in the Iraqi prisoner-abuse case will be tried on the middle rung of the Army's three-step judicial ladder.
The soldier _ Spc. Jeremy Sivits, 24, of Hyndman, Pa. _ will go before what military lawyers call a special court-martial.
Military law blocks a special court-martial from handing down the strictest punishments. Only a trial on the top rung, known as a general court-martial, can end that way.
