The Seattle area's substantial Indian community today is celebrating Lohri, a prominent winter festival from northern India.

The harvest festival is an enthusiastic event for which giant bonfires are lit outside each home on Jan. 13 as neighbors mingle to feast on traditional sweetmeats. Revelry continues late into the night. In a Hindu hint of Halloween, children go house to house asking for treats.
