Born in Riyadh in 1928, Prince Sultan has been second deputy PM since June 1982, when his full-brother Fahd became king, and a defence/aviation minister since 1962. After completing his royal court education, his father King Abdel Aziz (Ibn Saud) made him emir (governor) of Riyadh. In 1953, when the first Council of Ministers in Riyadh was formed, Sultan became minister of argriculture. In 1955 he became minister of communications.
