History of hurling:

Hurling is Europe's oldest field game. The Celts came to Ireland at the tail end of the final Ice Age and brought a game similar to hurling with them. It has been a distinctly Irish game for 2,000 years. Early games were violent and people even died from blows to the head. The Celts used their hurling sticks in battle for defense.
