Timing is everything.

With U.S. gasoline prices now more than $2 per gallon, Volkswagen of America Inc. predicts a 37 percent boost in its diesel vehicle sales this year.

Two new diesel-powered models are expected to fuel the automaker's diesel gain. They are the four-cylinder Passat 2.0-liter TDI and VW's flagship diesel: the 5.0-liter, 10-cylinder Touareg TDI, which has 310 hp and 553 pounds-feet of torque.
