A preliminary hearing took place in the Court of First Instance on June 8, following a referral to the European Court by the British High Court, where Swedish Match had initially lodged its case. The hearing was heard in conjunction with a case brought before the Courts by German cigar manufacturer Arnold Andre, which also wants to see the ban lifted. The hearing is a preliminary step in the case, and will be followed by a non-binding Opinion of the Advocate-General and then a final judgement. The case could therefore last up to a year or more.
